WorldView-3, launched in August 2014, provides the highest level of detail commercially available from any satellite. The imagery it will provide at nadir is equivalent to 30 cm resolution aerial imagery, previously unavailable from space-borne sensors.
WorldView-3 provides new capabilities to the commercial market, including 8-band SWIR (Short-Wave Infrared bands) to capture spectral data in the ranges invisible to the naked eye and a 30m CAVIS instrument that will help provide more consistent imagery. It has specific benefits to the agricultural, environmental, mining and oil & gas industries.
The unique CAVIS band will help measure and counteract the interference of atmospheric conditions on imagery and provide consistent results from imagery captured repeatedly over the same locations.
WorldView-3 operates at an altitude of 617 kilometers and gathers up to 680,000 square kilometers of imagery per day.
